Lava Flow |

At the end of March 2021, the Fagradalsfjall volcano on the Icelandic peninsula of Reykjanes will erupt. In mid-May, I have the opportunity to shoot there under very special conditions. Early in the morning, I hike for about an hour and a half near the volcano. Most of the time I am still alone, but slowly the next astonished visitors join me. There are always extreme changes in the weather - storm, cold, fog, then clearing, clear light, calm. Sometimes hot air blows over from the volcanic cone, and the nearby lava flows also warm things up a little. On seven days of filming, I experience a wide variety of moods - fast-flowing lava flows, a three-hundred-metre-high orange fountain that returns every ten minutes and constantly changing lighting conditions. On the last day, I don't take any more film equipment with me, I take my time and relax. The impressions are overwhelming in the truest sense of the word.
