In some cultures, doing nothing is seen as something very valuable. It is not just an interruption to activity, but a productive and creative force. The Japanese, for example, have a special respect for the concept of ma - the space between objects or activities. Westerners might describe the space between a table and a chair as empty. The Japanese, on the other hand, define the space in between as "full of nothing".
