36 minutes of video through Vienna
Vienna – The idea is simple: to create a minute-long video with a Vienna connection on a (randomly) chosen day, October 15, 1991. The idea for this project came from and it was coordinated by the cameraman and documentary filmmaker Manfred Neuwirth (Memories of a Lost Country). It was realized by his companions from the Wiener Medienwerkstatt, the artists' group Der Blaue Kompressor and other independent filmmakers and video creators.
The result is a total of 36 one-minute pieces, which can be seen in one evening under the title Wienminuten. What makes this work so appealing is the carefree nature of the editing, in which documentary impressions collide with strict structural arrangements, and experimental forms follow essayistic miniatures.
And some “minute” is to be raised almost to the status of a gem - such as Ilse Gassinger's wonderfully wistful video postcard greetings from overseas; Herbert Paper's happy time-in-image meditation on time in the image, and the time of the image; Anna Steininger's rides through the flickering monotony of the Viennese suburbs.
Or Karin Berger's mischievous homage to her first-born child (who did not want to adhere exactly to the temporal framework of the project – it was already two hours past October 16, 1991); Michael Langoth's staccato accordion in front of current Viennese billboards or Leopold Lummerstorfer's about the daily morning radio catastrophes, to mention only a few personal favorites.
