On the 8th May 1945, the historical handshake took place between the Soviet and the American Chief commanders of both armies in Erlauf / Lower Austria. This officially signalised the end of the Second World War in Austria. 50 years later a peace monument was erected in Erlauf to commemorate this event. The artistic design was carried out by the American artist Jenny Holzer, and the Russian artist Oleg Komov.

The film gradually gets closer to the peace monument. Questions about the recollection, memory, and the representation of historical events are the central theme. The two monuments comprise calm picture/sound/collages. In addition to this discussions with Jenny Holzer and the son of the deceased artist Oleg Komov are shown.
